Overview

Disaster recovery is the protection of an organization from the effects of significant negative events such as cyber attacks, equipment failures etc.  Disaster recovery management consists of preventing such a disaster and quickly resuming critical functions in the unlikely case that disaster strikes.

AVL offers a leading Disaster Recovery Management solution in the form of a subscription-based model designed to save you money in hardware and software license purchases.  As a part of AVL’s Managed Cloud services, we offer ongoing monitoring, as well as round the clock customer support to ensure we are available to assist you when you most require it.

AVL’s disaster recovery solutions include 24/7 real-time data replication, content system monitoring and a Server Recovery Option.  With AVL, your company database is saved onto a hard disk drive in real-time, so that an up-to-date your version of your data is always available for restoration if required.  At the same time, AVL’s system monitors the health of your server infrastructure, and issues a notification to the failover mechanism and system administrator in the case of a fault.  If the disaster strikes, AVL’s Server Recovery Option (SRO) is deployed and all user traffic is seamlessly redirected to a backup system with no noticeable change in user performance.

How it Works

AVL provides a leading Disaster Recovery Management solution in the form of a subscription-based model, which can save you a great deal of money in hardware and software license purchases. As a part of AVL’s Managed Cloud services, we offer ongoing monitoring, as well as round the clock customer support to ensure we are available to assist you when you most require it.

AVL’s Disaster Recovery solution incorporates the following primary functions:

24/7 Real-Time Data Replication

Every transaction and activity that that is processed through your information system creates a small change to your database. Even a short burst of activity in a commercial environment is likely to make database changes that will harm your company if they are lost. Therefore, with AVL, your database is continually saved onto a separate hard disk drive in real-time, so that an up-to-date your version of your data is always available for restoration if required. AVL’s Disaster Recovery solution allows you to specify a recovery point objective (RPO) down to the second, which in turn provides you with a recovery time objective (RTO) of minutes.

24/7 Monitoring of Your System’s Health

Running in parallel to the real-time backup process, AVL’s system monitors the state of health of your server(s) and anticipates the moment of failure. If this happens, the monitoring system issues a notification to the failover mechanism and system administrator to ensure that data recovery can commence as quickly as possible.

Instant Failover Mechanism

In the case of a failure, recovery is achieved by an add-on solution known as a Server Recovery Option (SRO), whereby the original production system is bypassed using electronic switching, and is replaced by a backup machine. Static software is installed allowing data to be used in the replicated production database. All user traffic can be seamlessly redirected to the backup system, which will continue to work as the production machine, without affecting functionality or user experience.
